Worst Danzig Cover Ever? Maybe Not Ever, But It’s Up There.

I found this video a while back and I kinda shelved it. I found it in my bookmarks yesterday and, as I watched, I realized I had to post about this. First off, why does this guys have no shirt on? According to YouTube, this was uploaded February 23rd, 2008. February is a fucking cold month. I don’t care if you’re inside. Put some fucking clothes on. This dude looks like Lieutenant Dan Taylor post-Vietnam. Second, he has completely butchered the song. It’s not even “Mother.” He stated that he was shooting for a jazzy-lounge sound. Well, you got it. Unfortunately, you are not Richard Cheese. Leave this shit to people who can pull it off. And the guy’s singing? Well, where do I start? He can’t sing. He has no place singing anything. If you want to hear the worst part, it’s from 2:45 onward. Good god. I applaud your attempt, but unfortunately, you fail.

SCION Presents: FUCK THE FACTS Interview

It’s been a while since I’ve done an article with Topon Das of Fuck The Facts. I am currently putting together our next Q&A but until then, you can check out this new interview Topon and Mel Mongeon did with Scion AV. I really like this interview for a few reasons. First, I like that Scion’s interviews don’t involve someone asking the band questions, it’s just like them talking. That’s cool. Second, I finally know that I have been pronouncing Topon’s name correctly all this time. Myself and Mrs. Gnarly have discussed how to pronounce his name over and over again, and finally I know that I WAS RIGHT! Third, I learned a lot about the band that I didn’t know before, like how Mel’s first language was not English and how I still love the way Canadians talk. Nothing against you guys, just saying. So check out the interview below, then go follow FTF on Twitter and on Facebook. FTF’s new album Die Miserable is due out… Sometime. Let me get back to you on that release date. Enjoy.

Review: LITTLE SISTER – “Repercussions”

By: Ross Gnarly

From the moment “Old Gods” starts, I knew I was in for a treat. This band has it all: full on brutality by way of filthy, crusty hardcore in the vein of Hoax. The riffing is fantastic, nothing to extravagant. The drumming is fast and complex, blasting away. The vocals are high pitched shrieks, sharp and ferocious similar to bands like Sourvein and Dopethrone. You put all of that together and it creates the beautiful, dirty sound of Little Sister.

“Young Invincible” harnesses that sound and adds a bit more flare to the guitar work. It’s still chaotic and it’s still crusty, but it’s just got that extra somethin’ mixed in. The drumming is again punishing and quick. I have nothing to complain about whatsoever. I love these killer vocals. The dual vocals with the highs and lows add a nice punch to the track. This band is seriously amazing. [Continue Reading]

What Happens When You Mix HATEBREED And 100 DEMONS? LIONHEART.

I’ve heard of this band before, but I never actually listened to them and I probably wouldn’t have if Metal Underground hadn’t posted that they had released a new music video. I thought to myself, “should I actually listen to this? Fuck it.” and I hit the play button. What immediately poured out over my speakers was obvious Hatebreed worship with 100 Demons-esque vocals (the scream-y ones. Not the sing-y ones). This kind of shit is still called “hardcore” isn’t it? Or is there another name I can call this? Much like Hatebreed, Lionheart seem to have that jock mentality about them. I’m not into it, man. I gave it a listen and I just don’t dig. Unlike most bullshit posts, I want to rate this band.

Originality: F
Musical ability: C
Execution: C
Overall rating: D

Sorry, but this is no bueno for Gnarly. If you like it though, spread the bro love.

WTF Moments: STAIND Is Still Making Music. That Sucks.

Yeah. So, Staind is apparently still making music despite front man Aaron Lewis’ attempt at country music(can anyone say Darius Rucker ripoff?). This new song “Eyes Wide Open” has a lot of the same characteristics as “Mudshovel,” not that this fact makes it any better, just saying. Staind is due to drop on September 13th. When you see it on iTunes or in the music store, keep fucking walking. This is just another WTF Moment. Thanks.

Dear Staind fans,

It stopped being okay for you to listen to this band 12 years ago. That is all.

Morning Jam: MARTYRDÖD

For the last few days I have been getting into Martyrdöd. I don’t know why I haven’t gotten into them before, they just never came across my radar. I figured this morning would be great to have Martyrdöd blaring as I wake up, eat breakfast and get my kids dressed. I was correct. Check this band out. They’re sick.
