Psyopus Guitarist Explains Odd Senses

Chris Arp guitarist of the extremely missed band Psyopus, recently sat down and made a series of video posts about the bands struggle to  make their latest (last?) album Odd Senses. It’s a five-part blog that goes fairly in-depth about all the problems the band faced leading up to the recording of Odd Senses and eventual hiatus. Arpmandude basically is Psyopus and it’s not hard to understand why the band is on hiatus after viewing these.

I can only hope that one day soon Psyopus makes its triumphant return to sonically raping tech metal fans. Continue below to watch all five parts.

Dorian Rainwater And Collin Masterson Jam Session

You know those magical moments on tour that fanboys would cream their pants if they ever got a chance to see? While here is one of them. On Noisear’s recent tour, the bands lead guitarist Dorian Rainwater had a little jam session with Collin Masterson (Krallice, Behold The Arctopus, Gorguts, Dysrhythmia) and thankfully someone was there to film it.

The first few minutes are Dorian dicking around on guitar while Collin sets up his Warr guitar, so fast forward to the five minute mark if you wanna get straight to the jam sesh.  I don’t know about you guys but I would love to hear a recorded collabo between  the two of them.  Continue below to catch part two.

P.S. how the fuck can that dude sleep through that shit?

DESPISE YOU & MAGRUDERGRIND Are Going To Terrorize The East Coast This September.

Metal Injection’s Sean Gresen’s AKA Spleen Latifa is an artist. We can say that, right? Sure, why not. He works for a notable television channel and he gets live footage of underground shows that Rob doesn’t want to/is too scared to go to. Sean also does video work for bands, much like the above clip which is for Magrudergrind and Despise You’s upcoming East Coast tour together. I, unfortunately do not live on the East Coast, so I won’t be seeing any of these shows, but I know that some of my readers are from that side of the ‘States. If you happen to live in one of the cities that Despise You and Magrudergrind find their way into, run for your life. Run for the nearest venue. See them. You can check out the tour dates below and more info at Metal Injection. As I stated, the above video was made by Mr. Latifa. Pretty nice work, if I do say so myself.

Two weeks after his arrest, Coheed bassist Michael Todd was set free on a $25,000 bail from the Dartmouth House of Corrections at midnight. It is unknown who posted bail for him. If you recall, Todd was arrested after robbing a Walgreens in Attleboro, Massachusetts.

I guess the replacement bassist sucked so bad that they just had to get Todd back as soon as they could. That’s my theory.

Get A Load of This WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM Album Art!

I am probably overly excited about the upcoming Wolves In The Throne Room album. I absolutely love this band and I have a feeling that this album will have a lot to offer fans new and old. I don’t know why I feel this, exactly, probably just my hopes. The band revealed the album art for their upcoming album Celestial Lineage as well as the track listing. Yes! The album art looks terrific. It obviously has that WITTR vibe to it. You can check out the album art at the top of this page and the track listing after the jump. Unfortunately we haven’t gotten a taste of new material yet, we only have to wait until September 13th. Sickness.

MASTODON Want To Lick You With Their “Black Tongue”

All Hail HAIL! HORNET! All Hail!

I let Hail! Hornet slip past me a while back. I’m not sure how or why I let something that involves “Dixie” Dave Collins of Weedeater and Troy Medlin of Sourvein. I mean, I love both of those bands. Does someone want to tell me why this was never pointed out to me? I mean, this just isn’t fair. I can’t find stuff if no one brings it up. I really had no idea what this was when it showed up in my promo list, but as I looked into it, I found out that ex-members of King Travolta and Sourvein had teamed up with the voice of Sourvein and the head honcho of Weedeater/Buzzov•en back in 2006. What the fuck? Really? I should have been told about this long ago. But no! No one wanted Gnarly to know about this. I had to find out on my own. I can understand why I never heard the first album, it came out on a label that, as far as I can tell, only released one other album that I know (Soilent Green’s Pussy Soul) but I guess there is no excuse for me not knowing about Hail! Hornet’s Relapse Records debut Disperse The Curse. I guess I didn’t surf enough sludge blogs or pay enough attention to the press releases. So I guess it is my fault. That sucks, well, now I know about them, and I am fucking ecstatic. It’s really a killer record and it should be enjoyed by all. If you are a lover of sludge, please go and get this beast. I haven’t gotten a chance to review it yet, but I will try to get to that as soon as I can. Disperse The Curse came out last Tuesday (July 19th). Check out a new track after the jump.

Review: LOSS – “Despond”

By: Ross Gnarly

Most doom bands these days are attempting to sound more crushing than those that came before them. A lot of bands succeed in this but very few give me that sense of dread that I get from Loss. This band is not as much a band as it is an unholy entity. With music that truly lives up to their genre, this band honestly heeds impending doom upon its listeners. Sheer dread and horror are partnered with fantastic song structure and wonderful execution in this entity. It is truly something to marvel at. The music, while being dark and misanthropic also gives way to a very melodic nature to which it is given an even darker atmosphere.

Beautifully articulated musicianship with the subtlety of an atom bomb, this band is not to be taken lightly. Loss has been around for quite a few years, starting in 2004 and releasing their first two demos the same year. The band released a few split albums before finally releasing their debut album via Profound Lore in May of this year. All across the world, this band has been getting insane praise for this album, which is titled Despond. If you are unaware of what the word ‘despond’ means, it is a state of unhappiness and low spirits and I don’t think Loss could have chosen a better name for this album. [Continue Reading]
