Oh shit, thanks to some homies on the webz I have found some music videos of MC Ride‘s (Stefan Burnett) projects prior to Death Grips. The first one up is a video of Burnett walking through the woods, smoking trees, and rapping under the name of MxlPlx. Although the flow isn’t intense at all, You can kind of see how some of the ideas behind the ambiance of DFGRPZ came into fruition -

Still under the name of MxlPlx, Burnett rapped with two other Sacramento rappers known as Young G and Swank Daddy. Together the rappers called themselves Fyre and put out the two videos featured below.
I’m not surprised Burnett was making music prior to Death Grips but I am a little surprised at how good the man is at painting. Jesus, some of his paintings are seriously phenomenal. With talent like that it almost makes you wonder why he doesn’t make art is primary focus. All the paintings I have found so far are all black and white and are eerie as fuck. Check it out -

Thanks to a little digging around on Google, after reading Zach Hill’s interveiw with Pitchfork.com, I’ve seen some of Burnett’s work as a painter. As far as seeing his work as a rapper Pre-Death Grips, this doesn’t at all surprise me, and the timing of it all is a bit suspect if you ask me. Why is it no one sought to release these videos when DG dropped Ex-Military last spring? This to me seems like a small publicity stunt on part of the group to expose the world of Stephan Burnett little by little. Slowly pulling away the veil of mystery that surrounds the man. Either way, this is fucking great!
