I love Dropkick Murphys. They are one of my favorite punk bands ever and their anthem “Shipping Up To Boston” is timeless. I’ve heard underground and unsigned bands try to cover this track before and they have all failed miserably. I didn’t think it was possible for a band to pull this off. Then I heard Children Of Bodom‘s cover and guess what? I was right. They absolutely failed at this attempt, much as they have in the past with their cover songs. One thing that makes “Shipping Up To Boston” what it is is the iconic bagpipes that are present. Take those out and you just don’t have the song. They couldn’t get Jonathan Davis to do guest ‘pipes? Listen to this abomination below and see how you feel about the synth-replacing-bagpipes cover.
This song comes off of Bodom’s forthcoming CD/DVD compilation Holiday At Lake Bodom (15 Years Of Wasted Youth) which is due out on May 22nd.
I come baring awesome news to all the crusties out there! Are you ready to listen to the entire new Tragedy album, “Darker Days Ahead“??? It looks like someone bought the album at a show and uploaded to the webz for all the suburban punks who can pay their ISP’s but not their favorite flavor of the week band. Actually, maybe one of the homies from Tragedy uploaded that shit, who knows? Nah, doubt it.
Just so you know…. Darker Days Ahead fucking slays. It’s so good that you’ll even be able to smell them thru the riffs. Listen to the album and leave a comment telling us what you think?

I have never been a fan of Veil Of Maya in the past. None of their material ever really caught my attention, but recently I found myself checking out their new album Eclipse on YouTube and I have to admit that this is pretty good material. It strays from the straight deathcore influence that was present on their older material and matures from the slightly-better music present on Id. I think Eclipse is the band’s best material to date. It’s not covered in scene goo like Id was. This album is fucking heavy, they take djent and give it balls. So yeah, for whatever genre you want to place them, deathcore, djentcore, djent, what have you, Veil Of Maya‘s Eclipse is fine with me. Check out Josh Armijo’s review of Eclipse here. The album is available now via Sumerian Records.
This is going to be the first post I have ever done that combines two of my passions (music & politics) as well as two things I can’t stand (lame ass black metal & fascists), yay!! As some of you may know, Greece recently went through an odd wave of elections. Due to the implemented austerity measures, many incumbents were voted out in favor of new blood with more extreme political views. Well one of the new members of the Greek Parliament is none other than Giorgos Germenis (pictured above on the left), the bassist of the possible NSBM band NAER MATARON.
Germenis was elected as part of the The Golden Dawn party. Besides the obvious Aleister Crowley inspiration behind the party’s name, The Golden Dawn party is not known for it’s enlightened social policies. It’s actually quite the contrary, they a far right-wing organizations who have had many accusations of being Neo-Nazi’s. Below is a quote from Germenis which stands as one of his running platforms.
“Greek factories must be reborn, Their chimneys must be filled with smoke once more, and of course all illegal immigrants must leave. If all the illegal immigrants left — and there are more than three million — there would be three million jobs for Greeks.” Germenis was also quoted by PRI’s The World as saying, “We Golden Dawn say that Greece is a rich country. In order to rebuild Greece, we also need to revitalize our factories and small workshops. In this way, Greece can stand on its own two feet. We won’t need the European Union or anyone else. We’ll just need Greeks.”
hmmmm. Sounds pretty reminiscent of some shit that is going on in Arizona. This just goes to show that austerity measures can lead to some pretty crazy outcomes. We might wanna start considering these things before we get suckered in by the faction of the GOP (including Libertarians like Ron Paul). Anyway, I am pretty sure NAER MATARON is signed to Season Of Mist. I usually dig what that label brings to the table, but this is one band I won’t be checking out…. Fuck, I hate fascists….

I have known about Ihsahn for a while now, but for some weird reason I never gave the project a full listen. I have only heard one or two songs in the past and apparently those weren’t the right songs because they didn’t exactly peek my interest. However, when I got the band’s forth release Eremita, I decided to give it a spin. Two songs in, I was absolutely blown away. What I got was amazing shreds on top of top-notch progressivity and fantastic vocals ranging from tortured screams to melodic clean singing. Usually, when it comes to me and progressive music, it’s pretty hit or miss, but with Eremita, it’s a fucking 100% win. [Continue…]
