Family will release their debut record, Portrait, on October 30th via Robin Staps of The Ocean’s label, Pelagic Records. The album will be a conceptual piece that focuses on the story of a dysfunctional family that gains super powers. Silly I know, but the music makes up for the album’s premise. You’ve already heard one track from this Brooklyn progressive sludge outfit. Now it is time for another. “Illegal Women” opens up with a spiraling riff in the vein of Between the Buried and Me’s “Selkies” and eventually morphs into a sludgy, prog rock inspired jam. It’s a pretty nifty listen. Check it out god damn it.
