If you think of grindcore and Blockheads aren’t somewhere in the top of your list, you may want to get your head examined. Blockheads are to grindcore what Skippy is to peanut butter. These French grind superstars are prepping the release of their new album This World Is Dead which will see the light of day exactly one week from today. If you listened to the first Aftermathcast, you’d know I have been granted the opportunity to stream this ten-star release and I am glad to bring it to you here today. I also swapped a few words with vocalist/bassist Erik, which you can check out below. So sit back and enjoy the madness. While jamming, pre-order This World Is Dead here.
You guys are preparing to release your latest album “This World Is Dead,” which is your first full-length since 2006. Why so long between albums?
Hello! Yes, the time between our previous album Shapes of Misery and this one This World Is Dead was quite long for an external viewer. But we did a lot of things during that period, we didn’t stay in our rehearsal room drinking beers hehehe! We played a lot of shows, we released a split CD/7inch with our buddies from Mumakil, we had 2 line-up changes (with each time the necessary period of the integration of new members). We also released our DVD called “Grindcore Overdose” which almost took a year to achieve. With all these things, we jumped pretty fast from 2006 to 2012. 2012 was dedicated to the recording of the new album. Mixing, mastering and here we are, 2013! Besides, Blockheads is not our full-time activity, we all have jobs and families so we need to combine everything.
Do you feel this music is the best that Blockheads has released thus far?
Like every band (I think), we try to do our best each time we start to write a new song, each time we release a new record. And of course, we’re really into the new songs because they are new.
But I really don’t know if this one is the best we’ve ever released or even better than the previous ones, the only thing I can tell is we did our best with these new songs.
What’s next for Blockheads?
Due to the record’s production, we didn’t play a lot last year and we can’t wait to go on stage again. We also started, or rather continue, to write new songs, maybe for a split 7inch later…. But for the immediate future, gigs, gigs, gigs! And maybe going to the USA, we’d love it!
