Something Awful: A LIFE ONCE LOST Call It A Day

It hurts to report this news, as A Life Once Lost are one of my favorite bands of the 2000s. They were vicious and extremely talented and sadly, they are no more. It has been revealed, through an interview with vocalist Bob Meadows, that the band has called it quits after fourteen years. After the jump you can stream A Life Once Lost‘s last album Ecstatic Trance and read the aforementioned interview.     Continue reading

I have been a fan of A Life Once Lost for a long time and whenever I hear a new album by the band, I am instantly blown away. A Life Once Lost have a penchant for creating aggressive, dissonant, catchy and grooving metal that I can never get enough of. Constantly chugging and driving, A Life Once Lost have been and are one of my favorite heavy bands.

When I got my filthy paws on their new album Ecstatic Trance, I had an idea of what was in store for me, but I didn’t think I would be engulfed in it the way I am. Every single song tells an exciting and angry story and each song is just as or more brutal than the one before it. I find myself nodding relentlessly and gasping for breath after I finish Ecstatic Trance. It’s a fulfilling metal release and it fucking destroys. Continue reading

A LIFE ONCE LOST Release “Empty Form”

A Life Once Lost have released yet another track from their upcoming record, Ecstatic Trance, which comes out on October 22nd. The new track, "Empty Form", is a driving, melodic track that revolves around a central bouncing riff and lets licks loose over the top. I personally do not care for this song all that much. I prefer the songs they released before it. But you might like it. Check it out.

REVOCATION Announces New EP and Bass Player

Boston Thrash shredders Revocation have recently announced that they will be releasing a new EP via Scion A/V later this month. The new EP is titled “Teratogenesis”. I assume it will be free since it’s a Scion release but don’t have any real details.

Teratogenesis will be the bands first album to feature new bassist Brett Bamberger {East Of The Wall, The Binary Code, Argonauts}. I would like to be the first to say that this is going to be a great combo. I’m not trying to hate on their old bassist, but I think Brett will be bringing a little more to the table as far as the writing process goes. The dude is phenomenal bassist and great dude. Congrats, Brett!

Frontman Dave Davidson commented on the band’s new bassist:

As some of you have already noticed Anthony has parted ways with the band. The split was amicable and we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors. We have recently enlisted the services of Brett Bamberger and we are incredibly stoked to have him on board as an official member. Come see us live and buy him a beer.

Oh, and I’d like to add one thing to Davidson‘s quote, SMOKE A BOWL WITH BRETT TOO!!

Reborn, Not Rehashed: A LIFE ONCE LOST Release “Something Awful”

Another album that is being looked forward to, by me at least, is the new release from groove titans A Life Once Lost. I’ve been a huge fan of this band and therefore their new album is something I have been anticipating also. The first track released off of the album, “Madness Is God” was killer and this latest track called “Something Awful” is a fucking beast. I mean, I love this track. It shows off all of the things I initially loved about A Life Once Lost and then some. Don’t take my word for it, check out the track after the jump compliments of Revolver Mag. Ecstatic Trance will be released on October 22nd via Season Of Mist. Continue reading

Why Am I Just Now Getting Into Devin Townsend?

Okay, I have never been a big Devin Townsend fan. I’m not sure why, I just never got into his solo stuff. I really dug Strapping Young Lad back in the day, but his other projects never really interested me for some reason. As I am typing this, however, I am listening to his track “Earth Day” and all I can think is “Holy shit! This is incredible!” Yes, true story. So I want someone to tell me why I’ve never gave this Canadian time of day. I will definitely be listening a lot more from now on. I can promise you that. [Continue Reading]
