I know a lot of you are excited for the upcoming Intronaut and to be honest, so am I. The band have released the dirty details on Habitual Levitations (Instilling Words With Tones) including the awesome artwork and the official track listing, which can be viewed below. In addition to their upcoming tour in North America with Meshuggah and Animals as Leaders, the band will be touring Europe in April with The Atlas Moth and Castle. Those dates can be viewed below as well as the music video for “Milk Leg”. Check it out.

According to a recent Facebook update, Periphery guitarist Misha Mansoor looks to be working with Animals as Leaders on new material. Misha states that they have six new songs down. For those that do not know, Misha provided the drum programming and helped produce their debut self titled record. I am very curious as to how this little puppy will turn out. Navene Koperweis, former Animals as Leaders drummer, is currently involved in a new experimental electronic project under the moniker Navene K. Navene will release a free digital EP entitled Human Design on November 13th under that pseudonym on the project’s official Bandcamp page. A little two minute teaser of what’s to come can be streamed below. It combines various electronic styles like IDM and dubstep into a complex, eccentric package. I don’t think it sounds that bad actually, despite the dubstep wobbles. Anyways, check out the teaser below if you so wish.

Instrumental jazzy prog band T.R.A.M originally seemed like they were going to make big waves in the undergound music pool, but now are slowly fading into another forgotten studio project. For those of you who aren’t familiar with this group, the band consists of Tosin Abasi (Animals As Leaders), Javier Reyes (Animals As Leaders), Eric Moore (Suicidal Tendencies)and Adrian Terrazas-Gonzalez (The Mars Volta). To date, T.R.A.M have only played one show.

The only show the group ever played, they headlined and it was a free event during SXSW 2011′ that featured The Faceless and Meek Is Murder. I was lucky enough to attend this show and bootlegged 3 out of the four songs they played. Javier Reyes (Animals as Leaders, T.R.A.M.) has his involvement in a new solo project. Javier has dubbed this project Mestis and will release a five song EP entitled Basal Ganglia under the moniker on November 27th via Sumerian Records. Javier had this to say on the upcoming EP:

Basal Ganglia is an EP that come from several places, and by places, I mean influences. I’ve always wanted to create a style of music that focused on being emotionally exploitive and technically sound, yet simple enough for the average music listener to appreciate. Another influence was using the eight string guitar in a form that is unconventional to the ‘trends’ or independent of characteristics that are found in music styles/genres that have popularized it. Another and important reason was to create a true form of my own independent voice as an artist. To create music that expressed my personality, upbringing, emotions and musical taste.

According to the EP teaser (below), the music on Basal Ganglia will be leaning towards the progressive rock side as expected with lots of jazz influence. I am curious to see what the rest of this will sound like. Check out the teaser.

Rich kids rejoice!! Instrumental progressive band Animals As Leaders have announced that this winter the band will be holding a private instructional camp dubbed “Camping With Animals”. The Animals As Leaders camp will be a four-day winter retreat that includes one-on-one instruction, seminars, “gourmet meals”, Workshops”, performances and “other camp activities”. The musicians that are announced as of now are Tosin Abasi, Javier Reyes, Matt Garstka, and The Faceless bassist Evan Brewer. Several other musicians are scheduled to appear but no other specific names have been given at this date.

The camp takes place on January 2nd to 6th, 2013, at Full Moon Resort in Big Indian, New York. If you or your parents have hella cash, you can sign up here. As you can imagine, this shit is incredible expensive, but I honestly can’t imagine any normal working 18-28 year old could afford this without some sort of assistance. Oh jesus fuck! Here is a photo worth 76 words! As you can obviously see, guitar god Tosin Abasi (Reflux, Animals As Leaders, T.R.A.M) is collaborating with the infamous Morgan Agren (Mats/morgan, Fredrik Thordendal’s Special Defects, Frank Zappa). This is a match made in prog nerd fucking heaven!
