Cara Neir are one of my favorite black metal acts of the last few years and not just because I’m friends with the guys. I love their music and how consistently they release albums. The band released their third full-length album last year titled Portals To a Better, Dead World and now the band has unleashed a new EP called The Overwatch. Coming in with seven tracks of hatred and despair, Cara Neir have once again totally destroyed. Check out a stream of the new EP and download it after the jump! Continue reading
I love Texan black metal outfit Cara Neir and recently interviewed the bands own Garry Brents (see here). If you’re not, you should be extremely excited for the bands forthcoming album Portals To A Better, Dead World, which will be released at the end of the month. You can check out a phenomenal new track from the two-piece right now over on Pitchfork. Let me just say, you need to check this out. This will be an album that is destined for greatness. Check out the track here and watch the preview for Portals To A Better, Dead World after the jump. Continue reading
I have made many friends over the last few years and I am slowly trying to interview each one for the site. My most recent interview is with my pal Garry from the Texan black metal entity Cara Neir. Garry and Chris will be releasing Cara Neir‘s new album Portals To A Better, Dead World this Halloween through Broken Limbs Recordings and Halo of Flies and I wanted to talk to Garry a bit about preparing to release their new album as well as some personal chit-chat. 2012 was an amazing year for me. I’ve already put out two of my Best Of lists and I have two more to go. 2012 was great year for breakout EPs and 7″ releases. A lot of killer bands put out spectacular EPs this year and so I decided to put together a list of those also. Here goes. Continue reading
It’s that time of year again: when we tell all of you folks what our favorite albums of 2012 were. Well, like last year I have compiled a few different lists and I wanted to start off with this one.
Who doesn’t love split albums? I mean, getting not one, but two bands on a single record is a thing of beauty. I listened a shit-ton of split albums this year and it was a pain in my ass narrowing down to only ten splits. This is what I have come to think of as the best split releases of 2012.
I started posting about around this time last year and I still love Cara Neir. Modern black metal done the right way, incorporating post-metal influences as well as gnarly grindcore and even… Stuff I can’t even comprehend. When Cara Neir and Ramlord released their split earlier this year I was blown away. When they also released their Sublimation Therapy EP this year I thought to myself, how the fuck can this band keep getting more and more awesome?
Are you a fan of filth and depravity? Dark and encompassing crusty black metal? Then this new split by Texas band Cara Neir and New Hampshire band Ramlord. This split completely destroys and both bands kill every single track. I got my hands on this album the other day and I love it. Definitely year-end list material. Definitely. Read on to check out my review of the Cara Neir/Ramlord split. [Continue…]
Today’s Random Band is one that I have come to love in a very short time. As I’ve told you folks over and over, I love scanning Bandcamp for new and interesting tunes. I find quite a few each day and it’s odd that every now and then I listen to a band, download their record and randomly receive an e-mail from them a few days later. I mean, this has happened on more than one occasion, most recently with the band Cara Neir. I got into this bands music a week or so ago and even showed them to Bari, who was really into ‘em as well and yesterday I received an e-mail from the bands instrumentalist Garry. I told him that I was already into the band and planning on writing about them so, why not make them the Random Band Of The Day?
Cara Neir are a fucking amazing band based out of Dallas, Texas. Their music is an outrageous blend of black metal, hardcore punk, experimental and grindcore. When you throw all of these different sounds into a blender and smash it with a hammer, you get the awe-inspiring, brutally dark and eerie Cara Neir. The band is killer by themselves and the addition of Dorian Rainwater of Noisear being a guest on the album as both a guitarist and vocalist really won me over. Dorrian is a homie so I knew anything that he would be into would have to be fucking killer. Fast, aggressive hardcore punk riffing with dark and ambient sections and atmosphere out the ass. That coupled with the Chris Francis’ absolutely mind-blowing. This band is all about the DIY also. Everything was written, recorded and produced by the band. Gotta love a band that knows how to keep their shit straight. I highly suggest you get into Cara Neir. They fucking rule and there is no reason why you shouldn’t be into it. Jam it up and download below.
