Daughters played two reunion shows this past weekend at The Met in Pawtucket, Rhode Island and luckily some fan-filmed footage has found its way online. The following videos show the band performing the tracks “The First Supper”, “Recorded Inside a Pyramind”, “The Unattractive, Portable Head” and “The Dead Singer”. You can stream the videos after the break and be sure to pre-order their repressed self-titled LP at this location. Enjoy.
East Coast, prepare to have your socks rocked off because Loma Prieta is coming to town. The band have announced a hand full of East Coast U.S. tour dates with Fucking Invincible (Daughters, etc) with Full of Hell appearing on select dates. You would be crazy not to go to one of the following shows.
You remember that little band of miscreants, Daughters? Of course you do. Have you been wondering what those misfits have been up to you? Well, it looks like one of them is in a new band! Daughters frontman Alexis Marshall is now lending vocals to a band called Fucking Invincible. Fucking Invincible is a straight forward, punch your mother in the face hardcore that features Alexis yelling his head off over the crushing riffs. Yup, no drunken Elvis vocals here. If this entices you, stream their Very Negative EP below. It’s pretty solid.
As you know by now, back in September Hydra Head Records would be closing its doors. I was deeply saddened that my favorite label was going under because of the state the music industry is in. But according to a recent post on Hydra Head’s official blog, the label that brought you Isis, Pelican, Daughters and more may still be able to keep breathing. Introducing Hydra Health; a Hydra Head rehabilitation project. According to the post the label will still not be able to release new records BUT they will still be able to preserve their catalog with your help! The label is offering a slew of special purchasable items (with more on the way) in order to raise money for their upcoming represses. Here is the official statement:

Take a moment to look at the band name, the album title and the ridiculous artwork. When you are finished analyzing what you see, please tell me how you cannot be intrigued? It was recently brought to my attention that Baltimore based noisy aberrations Sexgender exist and need to be heard. Sexgender’s platform is all about promoting sexual freedom, gender role awareness and completely visceral, psychotic noise. Their seven track, eighteen minute debut, Transgenital, is a short but sweet little bastard of heart failure triggering noise rock.
Hurricane Sandy has been a real bitch. Lives have been lost, communities have been destroyed and to top it all off, Brooklyn’s Translator Audio and The South Sound studios have been wiped out. The studio where classic albums from Daughters, Pelican, Cave In, East of the Wall, Unsane and many others have been recorded has been destroyed. A statement regarding the event was issued by producer and co-owner Andrew Schneider:
Isis, Pelican, Daughters, Cave In, and These Arms Are Snakes are just a few of the bands that have worked under the umbrella of Hydra Head Records. This label has put out so many memorable releases (at least to me) and has always had an eye for quality, which is evident due to their amazing past and present roster. Sadly label founder and ex-Isis frontman Aaron Turner announced that the legendary Hydra Head would be closing its doors. This is official statement composed by Aaron:

Those familiar with the spiteful doom duo, The Body, will remember the inclusion of an all female choir on the opening track of All the Waters of the Earth Shall Turn to Blood, “A Body”. The all female choir in question is known as The Assembly of Light choir. Founded in 2008 by Chrissy Wolpert, The Assemble of Light choir is a secular, all female choir that includes almost twenty members. The choir recorded their self titled debut in Providence, Rhode Island with members of The Body, Braveyoung and Daughters. Those contributors should spark interest in you enough but trust me that choir itself is the most awe inspiring inclusion on this record.
Daughters were a band that were hard to categorize, especially with the release of their sophomore effort Hell Songs. The combination of dizzying guitar acrobatics, intense cacophonies, lurching tempos and Alexis Marshall’s drunken, tortured Elvis Presley-esque nihilistic rants made Daughters a band in a class all their own. Brian Cook (bassist of Russian Circles, ex-Botch) realized this as well. Brian took to the web and posted up the first chapter of his unfinished biography on the band in question. It is a fantastic read and I hope that Brian is able to finish this project in the future. Read the article HERE.
The riff rockers in Fang Island will release their new album Major on July 24th via Sargent House. Stereogum have premiered the first single from the album entitled “Asunder”. The track is a sugar coated riff machine that fans of the band’s previous effort are sure to jam along to. I can’t wait until this thing drops! Check out the track now.
Math/indie rockers Fang Island (which includes Nick Sadler of Daughters fame) has announced that they will release their new album, Major, on July 24th via Sargent House. I am excited to hear as I was a huge fan of Fang Island’s self titled debut. The artwork, track listing and album preview can be viewed below.
Good morning, folks. Today I busted out my Daughters Hell Songs because it’s been a while since I listened to it. Just as I expected, it’s still amazing. Still a top-notch, no bullshit record. I have jammed out this album for a long time now. I love this band and I’m pretty sure you do to. It’s hard not to love something as crazy and gnarly as Daughters. So sit back and enjoy.
