I have never been huge on brutal death metal. Yes, there have been a few bands that I have enjoyed, one is Disgorge for the simple fact that… Well, Disgorge is fucking amazing. I love the raw, in your face brutality that Disgorge pushes out. It’s just fucking evil. Click here to check out a killer Disgorge track. Another brutal death metal band that I think is amazing is Emeth. Woah! Emeth are much different from Disgorge but they also have loads of brutality in their music. They have a much more well produced sound, so it’s not too raw, but the full-on aggression is still there. I would actually classify Emeth as a straightforward death metal band, but whatever. Click here to check out an Emeth track. I am sure there are many other brutal death metal bands out there that I would like, I just don’t really go looking for them because 90% of them incorporate slam into their music and I fucking hate that shit. That is the reason I never got into Cerebral Bore. I just don’t get down with that shit if you’re not Dying Fetus.
This post, however is not about any of those bands. This post is about one of my favorite brutal death bands, Vomit The Soul. These dudes took their name from a Cannibal Corpse song (off of Butchered At Birth) and for good reason. They share a lot of similarities. From the fast, abrasive death metal they play, even the guitar sounds are similar. The vocals are extremely guttural, similar to Chris Barnes around that era (and the Tomb of The Mutilated era also). Expertly executed jazzy bass lines. Also, the lyric content seemed to deal in a lot of the same kind of stuff Cannibal wrote (especially Vomit The Soul’s first record). Song titles like “Obsessed With Necrophilia,” “Defacing You with My Nails” and “Extirpated from Absurdity” all sound like possible Cannibal Corpse’s discarded tracks. [Continue Reading]
