This year has been more than gracious to my ears. I was fond of so many releases in 2012 that it was like pulling teeth trying to narrow this list down to JUST thirty. Since albums have the tendency to grow on me, this list was compiled without review ratings in mind, if I had a chance to review them that is. These thirty albums are the records that I continued to revisit throughout the year and have yet to stop jamming. These are the records that are still fresh and exciting upon the umpteenth listen. Without further adieu, these are my favorite albums of the year.
El-P has released a new music for his track “Stay Down” which is featured on his stellar new album, Cancer 4 Cure. The video shows El-P and Jaleel Bunton (TV on the Radio), portraying Nick Diamonds, performing a show. The crowd absolutely hate El-P while they go ape shit for Jaleel/Nick. It’s a pretty ridiculous video and features a guest appearance from Mr. Killums, the squirrel who starred in the video for “The Full Retard”. Anyway, I will quite running my mouth and let you get to it!
The first time you listen to Cancer 4 Cure you will be reminded of why he is known as El Producto. On El-P’s fourth full length record, the rapper takes his dense futuristic production style and incendiary word play to a whole new level. If you have ever denied this man’s virtuosity in the past then you will take all of that back when you listen to this beast.
It’s currently July which means that 2012 is half way over. Just like any other run of the mill music blogger, I want to share with you the releases that have stuck with me for the past 6 months. So far, 2012 has brought me a plethora of good music but these few releases below have not been able to release their grip on me. In fact, some of these records grew on me quite a bit. I could go into detail on why I loved this releases but since I am lazy today, I’ll let the songs speak for themselves. Check them out and tell me what you think:
Killer Mike has released his new music video/mini film for his song “Big Beast”. The song comes from his stellar new album R.A.P. Music, which is one of the better hip-hop records to come out this year in my opinion. This video has everything you love: car chases, robberies, tongues being cut out, bodies being cut in half and strippers eating entrails. So yeah, it’s NSFW but it’s fucking awesome. Check it out below!
EL-P recently performed “Stay Down” from his new album Cancer For Cure on The Late Show With David Letterman. The dude really puts on a killer performance and his backing band really adds to it. I have already heard this album and it’s definitely one of the better hip-hop releases this year. Check out his performance below.
