PYRRHON Announce New EP “Growth Without End”

Brooklyn abstract metal maniacs Pyrrhon have announced the release of a new EP that comes on the heels of the group’s 2014 critically-lauded full-length, The Mother of Virtues. Titled Growth Without End (artwork above), the five-track EP was written and recorded after The Mother of Virtues sessions ended, and was also tracked and mixed by Ryan Jones and mastered by Colin Marston. The EP is due out on June 2 via Handshake, Inc. The band official statement regarding the release is as follows:

GOOD NEWS / BAD NEWS TIME:

The bad news is that Relapse Records have terminated their contract with Pyrrhon and will not be working on our next LP. The given reason for their decision was that The Mother of Virtues has not proven commercially successful, which will surely come as a major shock to anyone who’s heard it. Our split with Relapse will not affect our upcoming European tour plans next month.

The good news: we will release GROWTH WITHOUT END, a new EP, on June 2, 2015. That’s the cover art you’re looking at. Written and recorded in the aftermath of the TMoV sessions, and handled by the same team (Ryan Jones on tracking/mixing; Colin Marston on mastering; Caroline Harrison on art/layout), it is our fastest, scabbiest material to date. GROWTH WITHOUT END will come out on vinyl & digital via Handshake Inc., whom you may know through their great work with the likes of Gridlink, Rwake, Sulaco, and Couch Slut. We will be joining another Handshake band for a limited number of out-of-town live appearances in support of the EP before commencing work on our next batch of material. Dates & details TBA.

The EP’s track listing can be found below along with their upcoming European tour dates with Department of Correction.

RIWEN (CULT OF LUNA) Streaming New EP

Swedish hardcore outfit Riwen (Cult of Luna, Sonic Ritual, etc) have premiered their new self-titled EP over at ZT Mag. The EP is three tracks of raw, unapologetic hardcore that hits where it hurts. On the new release, vocalist/guitarist Johannes Persson (Cult of Luna) comments:

“It’s a short and simple story: I got fed up with the big productions and long sound checks that comes with Cult Of Luna. So, it’s back to the roots of my salad days in Umeå. It’s time to make it simple, raw and fast. This is hardcore. I decided to write fourteen songs in fourteen days inspired by the bands I worshiped as vegan straight edge punk kid: Judge, Battery, Integrity, ACME and Damnation AD. The RIWEN concept is to not spend months in the studio and nitpick over every drumbeat and production details. The musical destruction has to be alive and direct, tailor-made to induce mosh mayhem and walls of death. I hooked up with [vocalist] Fredrik [Lindkvist] and [drummer] Christian [Augustin], both with a past in the crust/grind terror force Totalt Jävla Mörker. One rehearsal sealed the deal and we recorded three tracks in one night about to be released as a ten-inch vinyl on the Norwegian metal label Indie Recordings. Adding guitar player Marita [Jonsson Mätlik] and bass player Christoffer 138 [Röstlund Jonsson; DS-13, AC4, Epileptic Terror Attack, Sonic Ritual etc.] the lineup was complete. And thus, we are ready to slam dance all over the world. Are you ready? Tonight we ride!”

Stream the new EP over at ZT Mag now.
