The Florida based technical hardcore outfit Capsule have released, without any warning at all, a new five track EP on their Bandcamp. The new EP, entitled [A], features five roman numeral titled tracks that are just what you would expect from Capsule; stellar. This new release is the follow up to 2011′s solid No Ghost. Other than the new full length they are working on now, Norma Jean are planning to write and record another full length live in one week and write and record an EP in 24 hours and film the process. The Chicago riff-mangling trio of Lair of the Minotaur will celebrate their 10 year anniversary this year with a new EP! The band will release the new two-track EP, entitled Godslayer, on April 20th on Grind-House Records (Record Store Day). The new 7″ EP bears the new tracks “Godslayer” and “The Black Heart of the Stygian Drakonas”, both mastered by Scott Hull (Pig Destroyer), and will be limited to 300 copies with digital formats available as well. According to the band’s Facebook, the mighty Will Haven are officially working on a new EP. No specific details were given but I imagine the beans will be spilled within the coming weeks. Meshuggah have partnered with good ol’ Scion A/V to bring you a new two track EP entitled Pitch Black. The EP features the previously unreleased title track and a live recording of “Dancers to a Discordant System”, which was recorded live at Distortion Fest, Eindhoven, Netherlands in 2012 ”Pitch Black” is a six minute, hypnotic and atmospheric track that was recorded back in 2003 at Fear and Loathing in Stockholm by guitarist Fredrik Thordendal. I personally do not care for the track but my opinion doesn’t matter to you Meshuggahnauts. You can check out both tracks below and pick up the EP for free at this location.

Mogwai will be releasing their score to the new French zombie centered television series, Les Revenants (loosely adapted from the 2004 film of the same name), on February 25th. The group have released a teaser EP of the soundtrack that features four tracks from the full release and can be purchased digitally on iTunes. For those who are interested in a physical release, a 10″ vinyl (limited to 2,000 copies) will be released on January 28th. Below are the track listings to both the EP and the full soundtrack below as well as a stream of each song from the aforementioned EP.

Stephen Brodsky (Cave In) has a brand new five song solo EP entitled Hit or Mystery due out later this year on Little Black Cloud Records. The outing was mixed by James Plotkin (Khanate) and will be released digitally and as a 12″ LP. The EP will feature 4 brand new songs and a Lee Hazelwood cover. If you have never heard Stephen’s solo stuff before then you are in for a real treat. His music spans the gamut of acoustic folk, ambient soundscapes, space rock and others that sound drastically different than Cave In. Check out one of his tracks below.

2009’s thunderous What We All Come to Need was Pelican’s most diverse and well written and focused record to date. Three years is long enough to wait for new Pelican material in my opinion. Throughout their existence they have created some of the most expansive and epic instrumental passages I have ever heard. This year, Pelican once again raises the bar for other bands in their class with the four song EP Ataraxia/Taraxis. This short but sweet EP begins a new chapter in Pelican’s career and takes their established sound a step further.

What do you get when you combine Animals as Leaders guitarists Tosin Abasi and Javier Reyes with The Mars Volta saxophonist Adrian Terrazas and Suicidal Tendencies’ drummer Eric Moore? You get the progressive rock/jazz fusion hybrid T.R.A.M. (Terrazas. Reyes. Abasi. Moore). When this project was first announced early last year, naturally as an AAL fan I became excited. But when footage and songs start surfacing on the web I was very surprised at the band’s sound. In February of this year, T.R.A.M. gave us their debut EP Lingua Franca. I suspect hardcore fans of Animals as Leaders and the other bands mentioned would be disappointed in this release. I, however, was not.

Cop Problem is a fairly new punk outfit who will release their self-titled debut EP on the 29th of this month.
