Go figure that right when I really get into a band, they break up. Gifts from Enola announced today that they will call it a day. The band will play one final show on June 8th in Harrisonburg, VA at the Blue Nile in which they will play material spanning their entire discography. Made of Chalk has premiered the new music video for the Gifts from Enola track, “Cherry”. The song is taken from their phenomenal album of last year, A Healthy Fear. The music video is merely shows the band performing the track in front of an audience. It’s nothing special really, but the main thing to focus on is that amazing song. This year has been more than gracious to my ears. I was fond of so many releases in 2012 that it was like pulling teeth trying to narrow this list down to JUST thirty. Since albums have the tendency to grow on me, this list was compiled without review ratings in mind, if I had a chance to review them that is. These thirty albums are the records that I continued to revisit throughout the year and have yet to stop jamming. These are the records that are still fresh and exciting upon the umpteenth listen. Without further adieu, these are my favorite albums of the year.

Virginian progressive post-hardcore band Gifts from Enola have released a new music video for their song “Steady Diet”, which will appear on the band’s upcoming record A Healthy Fear, which is due out on November 13th via The Mylene Sheath. The track shows the band playing outside a dilapidated hutch while simultaneously shows the perils of a homeless vagrant who has a dark side. The song itself is melodic, enthralling and full of hardcore intensity. This band has a style all their own and it’s nice to hear something very refreshing. Check it out below.

“The Benefits of Failure” was the first taste of new music from progressive metal outfit, Gifts from Enola, we sampled. Since then the band have released not one but two new tracks from their upcoming record, A Healthy Fear. The first of which is “Long Weakend”. The track opens up with swirling muted harmonic strums that give birth to serpentine riffs and a flurry of post-hardcore yells behind the music. The track eventually comes to a sludgy breakdown before ending with waves of melodic sound that crashes upon the listener’s shore with euphoric bliss. The second track that I stumbled upon is a track called “Cherry”(stream below). The track bursts into being with melodic yet heavy hitting post-hardcore inspired riffs and subtle clean vocals. “Cherry” then scales back to a gorgeous, post-rock like section that is complete soothing like Vick’s Vapor Rub before launching back into full fledged aural assault full of angular riffs. In short, the songs are awesome! A Healthy Fear will be released on November 13th through The Mylene Sheath. Pre-orders for the effort can be purchased at this location.
