Born in the Year of Our Lord 2007 in the town of Idaho Falls melodic metallic hardcore quintet Outlet prepare to bequeath to the world the follow up to their acclaimed 2009 EP “Broken Is The Man, Vital Are The Missing Parts”. Consisting of 6 songs and spanning over 30 minutes the new EP “Memento Mori” contains in it just as emotion as it does math or heaviness, though it has plenty of all three. Slated for a Spring ’15 release in digital and physical formats on Glory Kid Ltd. “Memento Mori” marks a milestone in the development of Outlet as such innovations as the conservative use of clean, melodic, vocals and a light math influence are incorporated by the band, always in a subtle way.
Continue on after the break for a sample of Outlet’s maturation as a band in the form of their new song “Mortal Coil”. Streaming right now over at New Noise Magazine.
Initially featured in a prior Aftermath Straight To The Point review, the young forebears of “Pittsburgh Heavy Shit” in Killing Thing have bestowed onto American Aftermath the opportunity to unveil their latest step into aural brutality. Following a demo, an EP and track appearances on a split and compilation (download it all free here!), the chaotic hardcore quartet have returned, armed with a new vocalist and drummer and ready to enter the modern metallic hardcore revival lexicon with a new EP due out soon on Head2Wall Records, of which the video for the first track is featured below. Directed by Tyler Long (Run, Forever and Black Mask) and recorded by Dave Rosenstraus (of Hounds of Hate and Pissed Jeans fame), “Derision” brandishes a brash, greater 90s metallic hardcore centered sound whilst underplaying but not completely abandoning the group’s groovy beatdown, which comes exemplified in the best way in the last seconds of the minute and forty crusher. As for the video, bloody, live and simple. Stream “Derision” below and be sure to catch Killing Thing on their Midwest stomp, details also below. Continue reading

The recently renamed Code Orange have released a new track entitled “My World” off of their upcoming sophomore LP, I Am King, in conjunction with the opening of pre-orders for the record as well as announcements for an upcoming Fall tour with direct support from Los Angeles metallic hardcore act Twitching Tongues and indirect support from peers (Soul Search, War Hungry, Nails, Discourse, Axis and Blistered) whose appearances will vary by tour date. Aside from the trimming of denomination, the first two singles released for I Am King so far, the title track along with this most recent number, feature a similar change (in my opinion, for the better), narrowing down the band’s technical metalcore assault for a simpler approach that still retains the band’s experimental edge. Stream “My World” exclusively over at Alternative Press here, peep the poster and details for Code Orange’s upcoming tour below and pre-order I Am King via Deathwish Inc. here. Continue reading
The strange Los Angeles metallic hardcore ensemble Twitching Tongues are currently streaming a new “live” album entitled World War Live exclusively over at Decibel Magazine. Recorded live with an audience of twenty sum members, the dichotomous fake/real record(with art by Sean Taggart (Crumbsuckers, Agnostic Front)) simultaneously functions as a best-of album for the group with jokes, cameos and easter eggs that followers of California hardcore will be able to pick out. The band’s official statement for the record is as follows:
Recorded live in the Van Nuys stadium called THE PIT in front of twenty screaming fans, this is (not) a true testament to the event that occurs when this band hits the stage. The band was tired of hearing “they’re better live,” so here it is. With a setlist comprised mostly of songs from their latest LP, In Love There Is No Law, as well as previous material, the record almost doubles as a best-of the band’s current stage. The album cover was made by the legendary Sean Taggart (Carnivore, Crumbsuckers, Agnostic Front) and hardcopy buyers will regret their purchases slightly less with the addition of bonus material.
Stream World War Live here and pre-order the physical record, which promises extra material, via Closed Casket Activities here. Alternatively, attendees of this year’s This Is Hardcore festival can purchase the record from Closed Casket before everyone else gets it shipped.
