Prepare for the ultimate bummer Mars Volta fans because according to a plethora of recent tweets, it seems as if the frontman Cedric Bixler Zavala has quit The Mars Volta. In these tweets Cedric cites creative differences with Omar Rodriguez Lopez, stating that Omar’s involvement in his new group, Bosnian Rainbows, was over shadowing his involvement in The Mars Volta. According to Cedric’s words, he had tried to put a North American tour together in support of Noctourniquet but Omar was not on board with the idea. Apparently The Mars Volta is no more by what Cedric says:

Crypts’ self titled debut is available now through Sargent House and can be streamed below. It’s actually not half bad!
Being a huge Mars Volta fan it is sad for me to say that I have never cared for a lot of Omar Rodriguez-Lopez’s solo efforts. The guy puts out multiple releases a year and yet most of them never really strike a chord with me. This new one however, Octopus Kool-Aid, has caught my attention. It’s an odd electronic-pop album chocked full of odd synths and instrument arrangements. Obviously, the new Mars Volta record had some influence on this. A nice bonus is the inclusion of lead vocals from Teri Gender Bender from Le Butcherettes (whom you should also check out). She adds a little more flavor to Omar’s weird music. Stream the record below. Oh, and tell me that is not a great album name!
You know what I realized today? We are almost halfway through the year and there hasn’t been one Omar Rodriguez Lopez release…. What the fuck, right? Normally the dude puts out an album every time he has to take a shit. Well, the prolific guitarist literally just posted his new album, “Un Corazón De Nadie” on his Bandcamp page.
Now I know that most of his albums don’t sound the EXACT same, but “Un Corazón De Nadie” is the most stylistically drastic album he has released as a solo project. The new album is almost completely void of the familiarity that is Omar‘s guitar playing. Instead of taking the traditional prog route, he has opted to make an ambient almost electronic album instead. Some of the songs almost remind me of a throwback to 80′s electro-pop stuff like Eurythmics (Sweet Dreams). I can’t say that I really enjoyed the album or will ever listen to it again, but whatevs. Check it out….
Oh, I just realized this too, every time the amazing Sparta try to do anything, they end up being overshadowed by Omar… God damn it, What a pretentious fuck! lololololol
