Californian progressive death metal outfit Arkaik have announced the release of their third full-length album. The album will be titled Lucid Dawn and will be released on October 30 via Unique Leader. Engineered, mixed and mastered by Zack Ohren (Suffocation, Fallujah, etc), Lucid Dawn will feature 10 new tracks and guest appearances by Trevor Strnad and Ryan Knight of The Black Dahlia Murder, as well as Bay Are live string quartet, Amaranth. Lucid Dawn is the second installment in a series of concept albums revolving around Cyrix, a disillusioned character in a dystopian society. In Cyrix’s world, dreaming is systematically controlled by a tyrannical ruler named Khaal-Li-Phar and his army of dark shamans, where people are forced to build monuments to the tyrant to stifle their imaginations and inhibit their ability to achieve a multi-dimensional existence. Lucid Dawn is a death metal take on American mythologist, writer and lecturer, Joseph Campbell’s monomyth, and the beginning of Cyrix’s “Hero’s Journey.”
The album’s artwork, track listing and Arkaik‘s upcoming tour dates can be found below.

Back in January, The Black Dahlia Murderannounced their new album Everblack. I think from that point on, all Black Dahlia fans have been on their toes awaiting new material from the band. According to the reliable bros over at Metalsucks, former drummer of The Black Dahlia Murder, Shannon Lucas, is currently working on putting together a new grind project featuring Trevor Strnad (The Black Dahlia Murder) on vocals and Shane Embury (Napalm Death) on bass. Less notably the group features former Wartorn guitarist, Adam Faris. The group was originally conceived by Lucas prior to joining TBDM, but was put on the side line due to the groups busy schedule.
Apparently the guitar parts have been finished for quite some time and the band is just waiting for Embury to lay down some bass riffs before the ball really gets rolling. As of now, the group remains nameless but will be entering the studio in April to record vocals and drums for their first release. We will keep you updated as info is released.

Lo and fucking behold, their they’re on top of their shit. Continue reading →
