You folks know that I reviewed Unholy Majesty‘s debut 7″ the other day and I haven’t been able to stop listening to it. It’s a fucking fantastic slab of hardcore that every single one of you should be rocking out to right now. So that’s why I picked this amazing British band to open up American Aftermath today. When I first got Unholy Majesty’s self-titled 7” I wasn’t sure what I was in for. I had never listened to the band before sitting down to write this review. When the first track “Age Of Affliction” kicked off I was immediately interested; vicious, thrashy hardcore with perfect delivery and destructive execution. This is the kind of hardcore that can seriously perk up a day. It’s fast and it doesn’t rape the ears like some hardcore these days. This band seriously knows what they’re doing. “Age Of Affliction” is an undeniably ferocious track, chock full of demolishing drumming and blistering riffing. I am immediately reminded of Ringworm.
Unholy Majesty have that classic punk sound thrown into the mix of their songs as well, which is a breath of fresh air. This is quite apparent in the second track “Hyperborean.” The riffing on this track is fast and simple and it reminds me of some of the early hardcore bands from the heyday of the genre but with, you know more distortion.
